RTK (Rust Token Killer)
Rust CLI that rewrites shell commands via agent hooks and compresses their output to cut the tokens coding agents read.

Best for
- Claude Code users who want smaller bash output in context
- Reducing noise from git, test runners, linters and grep in agent sessions
- Teams using several agents (Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot) with one tool
Install
brew install rtk
rtk init -g
Our take
Actively maintained single Rust binary supporting 100+ commands and around 18 agents, installed as a PreToolUse-style hook so the agent gets filtered output without calling rtk explicitly. The hook only applies to Bash tool calls, not built-in Read/Grep/Glob, and reported token counts are bytes/4 estimates of bash output, not total bill savings. Licensing is split: the full edition and proxy include BUSL-1.1 components, while rtk-oss is Apache-2.0 only; a different crate named rtk exists on crates.io, so verify with rtk gain.
