Best for
- Cutting token usage in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents via headroom wrap
- Compressing large JSON and log tool outputs without code changes using the proxy
- Adding compression to Python or TypeScript apps inline
- Exposing compress and retrieve tools to MCP clients
Install
uv tool install --python 3.13 "headroom-ai[all]"
pip install "headroom-ai[all]"
npm install headroom-ai
headroom wrap claude
Our take
Compression runs locally and originals are cached so the model can retrieve full text on demand; the README reports 21-57% savings on its benchmark scenarios, with little gain on prose or dense output. The CLI ships only in the PyPI package, and headroom wrap also installs Serena as an MCP server unless disabled with --code-memory none. Output token shaping is off by default, and the project also promotes a paid Teams/Enterprise offering.
